Vegetable tanning

Vegetable tanning is a natural and handmade process used to transform raw hides into a more resistant material with a natural and fine appearance. It’s method is a bit slow but enjoyable with the environment. It is carried out in pits and later complemented in wooden drums using natural tannins available in powder or liquids from woods, pods, fruits or leaves.

Our vegetal leathers for sole, midsole and strap leather are tanned with natural products, giving greater resistance and better benefits to the personal artisans and industry in general. Such advantages are noticeable in engraving, molding, burnishing and tooling, among others.

Advantages:

  • Leather of great caliber.

  • Environmentally friendly process.

  • Greater strength and consistency due to pit tanning.

  • Higher water resistance, as the leather fiber stays tighter together.

  • It has greater benefits for artisans and industry in general, such as engraving, molding, burnishing and tooling.

  • Because we tan North American hides we offer greater thickness and extension in our various presentations and product lines.

  • Increased resistance as time goes by.

Chrome Tanning (Wet Blue) and/or Chrome-free (Wet-white)

Chrome tanning is a method that uses chemical solutions, acids and salts (including chromium sulfate) that interact with the collagen fibers to obtain a more supple leather (Wet Blue).

Advantages:

  • We use the latest and most advanced finishing techniques achieving the following results:

  1. Greater softness and a more natural texture.

  2. Easier sewing.

  3. Retention to uniform embossing

  • Greater physical properties.

  • Leather with outstanding dye ability; clean and uniform colors.

  • Greater extensión, best for cutting large pannels.

Splits

The leather splits are extracted from our hide splitting process leaving the full grain for tanning and splits for bleaching in order to make raw hide dog chews.

Mixed Tanning (Chrome tanning with vegetable re-tanning)

Mixed Tanning uses the combination of the synthetic and vegetable tannins, which allow the leather to have the durability and strength from veg. tan and the suppleness of chrome tan mixed together.

Advantages:

  • Resistance but malleable.

  • Durable leather without loss of suppleness.

  • The mixed tanning is soft and pleasant to the touch.

  • Leather with better performance of manufacturing in products such as pannier/ saddle bags, fashion belts and accessories amongst others.
